York Stage school...on screen summer school
Week 1: jULY 27 - 31 or
week 2: AUGUST 3-7
SUMMER SCHOOL // SHOW IN A WEEK
York Stage School are back with on an online twist to their annual 'show in a week' for young people age 8-16 who are keen to perform during lockdown. We are very excited to be producing York's first ever online musical!
[DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND OUR SUMMER SCHOOL WILL AGAIN RUN TWICE THIS YEAR!]
Young people will attend online workshops and rehearsals from 10am - 3pm each day, working with our creative team of industry professionals to create their very own 'Zoomsical'. Throughout the week we will be rehearsing songs, dances and scenes in order to perform the newly created online edition of Dean Pitchford and Doug Besterman's THE BIG ONE-OH!
THE BIG ONE-OH is a the story of Charley Maplewood who has never been one for parties – that would require friends, which he doesn’t have. Well, unless you count his monster friends, but they’re only imaginary. But now that he’s turning ten—the big one-oh—he decides to throw a birthday party for himself, complete with a “House of Horrors” theme. Of course, things don’t work out as he plans. Will Charley be able to pull it together before the big one-oh . . . becomes the big OH-NO!?
This fun show, which is written for a young performers will be fully rehearsed and will then be performed and recorded as part of the process on the Friday afternoon, after being professionally edited, there will be a YouTube premiere performance for you to enjoy with your child and indeed all of the family from the comfort of your own home... just make sure you have the little tubs of ice cream ready!
Places on this course are extremely limited due to the numbers of performers we can include on a zoom screen and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. No audition or prior stage experience is necessary but children must be able to work the computer/tablet they will be working from independently. Full training on how to use Zoom as part of the performance will be given as part of the programme but a confidence with technology is required, especially of younger children.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: Every student will need a computer with secure and reliable internet connection, and a device (smart phone) that allows them to record themselves singing and dancing. Tablets can be used but please note on a tablet the numbers of people that can be seen on the zoom call are reduced so they might not be able to see all of their friends on one screen. For the zoom sessions, cast members will need to be in a space that is relatively noise-free, where they can sing at full voice and perform any choreography full out. We love pets, television shows, and younger siblings... but sadly background noise and distractions hinder an effective rehearsal process.
Creative Team: Nik Briggs (Director/Producer), Joanne Theaker (Co-Director), Danielle Hill-Mullan (Choreographer), and Jessica Douglas (Musical Director)
